South Sudan Unite is a celebration of our unique and evolving culture. It is both an event and an initiative. As an event, it is an annual gathering of our people in the spirit of peace and unity, in which we celebrate each other. As an initiative, it is a community-building effort focused on mobilizing our diaspora in solidarity, it is focused on our youth so that we may overcome our divide together and realize our potential as a people.

South Sudan Unite is one of the projects delivered and sponsored by the Luol Deng Foundation. It was created with the mission to deliver positive social impact for South Sudanese youth in diaspora and their communities at large.

To create unity amongst South Sudanese in diaspora and at home whilst celebrating our unique culture(s) through arts, fashion, professional development, mentorship and community development initiatives.

We envision a world where South Sudanese accomplish and achieve sustainable, quality growth.

  • PEOPLE: A three-day event where people are inspired to be the best they can be. A celebration of our unique evolving cultures, through our music, art, and festivities. A non- political community event for all, rooted in humanity. SSU then turns into an initiative within the host city
  • PARTNERS: Nurture a winning network of South Sudanese diaspora, together we create mutual, enduring value. About collaboration and the belief that positive information can overshadow and eliminate negativity.
  • PRODUCTIVITY: Be a highly effective, lean and fast-moving initiative. Empowering South Sudanese youth and their community members with the realization that the road to a unified South Sudan is through them.

Our values serve as a compass for our actions and describe how we behave in the world.Leadership: The courage to shape a better future

  • INTEGRITY: Be honest, respectful, peaceful and open to listen to others
  • ACCOUNTABILITY: If it is to be, it’s up to me
  • PASSION: Committed in heart and mind
  • DIVERSITY: We are united in our differences
  • QUALITY: What we do, we do well
  • INSPIRE: Creativity, passion, optimism and fun

Why South Sudan Unite?

South Sudan Unite began in 2015. The first South Sudan Unite took place in Washington, DC in 2015, the second held in Omaha in 2016 and the third in Dallas, Texas in 2017; where six years after the country’s independence, South Sudan’s flag was raised by Luol Deng at the municipal governments’ administration building, known as City Hall.

South Sudan Unite maintains communication with the South Sudanese youth in every state South Sudan Unite has taken place with the intention of community-building focused on mobilizing the South Sudan diaspora in solidarity. We focus on young people so they overcome the divide in South Sudan together and realize the country’s and the people’s potential.

We aim to inspire moments of optimism and happiness through art, workshops, and sports among the South Sudanese diaspora. And to encourage young people as agents of change to med the divide in the spirit of peace and unity as well as to foster solidarity among like-minded individuals — to establish ourselves as stakeholders in our young nation’s future.
